Privacy policy
Last updated: 11 August 2026. Strand Web ("we", "us") respects your privacy. This policy describes how we handle personal information when you use our website, customer portal, and services — including domain name registration arranged through us.
Who we are
Strand Web provides digital services (website hosting, marketing, connectivity, software, and related offerings). For privacy questions, contact us via the details on our Contact page.
Website analytics (optional)
On our marketing site we may use Google Analytics and/or Google Tag Manager to understand aggregate traffic (for example pages viewed and general geography). Unless you choose Decline on the cookie notice, we take your continued use of the site as agreement to optional analytics; you can also use browser controls to block cookies. This does not replace account or billing data we need to provide services you sign up for.
Advertising / marketing measurement (optional)
If you choose Accept all on the cookie notice, we store an advertising preference (strandweb_ads_consent) so Google Tag Manager can measure Google Ads performance (for example conversion events). Advertising cookies are not enabled by continued browsing alone — only by an explicit Accept all choice. You can withdraw that choice below; withdrawal updates Consent Mode for the current page immediately.
Information we collect
Depending on how you engage with us, we may collect:
- Account and contact details — name, email, phone, company, billing-related information, and similar data you provide when you register, apply for services, or correspond with us.
- Service and technical data — information needed to deliver hosting, support, and integrations (e.g. configuration, logs, and communications through tickets or email).
- Payment-related data — when you pay by card for certain charges (including some domain registration fees), the payment is processed by our payment service provider (Netcash). We do not store your full card number or CVV on our servers.
Domain name registration — important
When you use our customer portal to register a domain name, you provide registrant and contact details (for example name, organisation, email, phone, and address) that are required to register the name with a registrar. You instruct us to submit that information to our registration provider, Amazon Route 53 Domains (AWS), to complete the registration on your behalf.
You remain the registrant of the domain (subject to registry and registrar rules). Strand Web acts as your service provider: we facilitate registration, billing where applicable, and ongoing support — we do not claim ownership of your domain name.
WHOIS and public disclosure: Many registries and top-level domains publish certain registrant or contact data in public WHOIS or similar directories, or make it available to accredited parties. Some TLDs offer privacy or proxy services where permitted. What appears publicly depends on the registry and TLD policies, not solely on Strand Web.
We use the contact details you supply for registration-related notices (e.g. renewal or transfer) where required by policy or practice. Keep your registrant email and details accurate and monitored.
How we use your information
We use personal information to:
- Provide, administer, and support our services;
- Process payments and fulfil orders (including domain registration and hosting);
- Comply with law, respond to lawful requests, and enforce our terms;
- Improve security, prevent abuse, and communicate service-related updates.
Sharing and processors
We may share information with:
- Amazon Web Services (Route 53 Domains) — to check availability, register, renew, or manage domains you request through us;
- Netcash — to process card payments you authorise for domain fees or other Pay Now charges;
- Registries and accreditation bodies — as required for domain registration and industry rules;
- Professional advisers, hosting providers, or subprocessors who assist our operations, under appropriate confidentiality and security obligations.
We do not sell your personal information.
Security and retention
We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information. Retention periods depend on the purpose (e.g. contract, tax, legal claims, and registry requirements). Domain-related data may need to be retained for as long as the domain is registered and for a period afterwards as required by law or registry policy.
Your rights (South Africa — POPIA)
Where the Protection of Personal Information Act applies, you may have rights to access, correct, or object to certain processing, and to complain to the Information Regulator. To exercise rights or raise a concern, contact us. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date will change when we do. Material changes may be communicated through the portal or by email where appropriate.
